Hi! Welcome to Lila Noire, the home of my artistic work. I am a multidisciplinary artist working across dance, music, songwriting, mixed media, and more. I am strongly driven by a lifelong love of creative self-expression, and this portfolio brings together different aspects of my work through visual storytelling. Everything here reflects how I approach art: with intention, authenticity, a deep personal connection, and always looking for meaning in what others might overlook.
Origins
My real name is Lauren, but Lila Noire is my trademarked brand and the embodiment of all my artistic endeavors, which tend to manifest in different ways depending on the day. The name began as my stage name in a burlesque trio, and it took awhile to come to. I immediately knew I wanted to use Noire, as a nod to my French Canadian roots, my black hair, and my natural draw to the darker aesthetics in life. But the first name was a struggle, until my grandmother suggested Lila during a brainstorming session. It had always been her favorite name, which I knew because she always used it during pretend play when I was growing up. The fond memories attached to it and the fact that it started with an L like my real name sold me immediately.
I went on to use Lila Noire as my stagename in multiple performance dance groups, and it's also the storefront for my pressed flower art. It’s become my creative signature, a symbol of determination and self-expression in whatever medium it wants to take shape. It’s also an ongoing tribute to my beloved Gram, who equally shared and encouraged my love for piano, flowers, and art.
My goal of this website and entire life is to inspire. Whether you like my work or not isn’t important; rather, my hope is to be part of the creation of a world where indulging your passions isn’t seen as selfish, and unapologetically sharing your talents isn’t seen as showing off, but as showing up. You are never too old to do what you love and share it with those you love. I hope everybody that stops by feels empowered to honor their authentic selves, and to boldly claim their talent with the pride it's worthy of. Thanks for being here!
