I visited Hohoe, in the Volta Region of Ghana, as part of a voluntourism group called CSS for a week in 2012 and two weeks in 2013. I taught the same class with most of the same students during both of those visits. In 2013, I independently moved to Hohoe for a year to volunteer teach the same class for the duration of their Primary 1 school year. I acted as the primary Math teacher, assistant teacher on all subjects, primary teacher when needed, and after-school tutor, as well as fundraising for several monetary donations and new desks for the entire school. Additionally, I spent the year working with a human-rights organization called iDEC Ghana, which included teaching Rights of Child classes across the region (teaching children about their basic human rights), assisting with individual cases, accompanying abuse victims to the hospital, and fundraising.
